Cat Toren (Pianst/Composer)

I am a pianist, composer and improviser with a Masters in Music Composition and Bachelors in Jazz Piano. With a background in classical, jazz, rock and avant-guard, I have the flexibility to perform events from cocktail parties to art openings, classy affairs to contemporary underground. An experienced educator, I offer classes in piano and theory and facilitate workshops and lectures.

Accolades include a JUNO Award for Best Instrumental Album of the Year 2013 and a Western Canadian Music Award 2016 with the co-led ensemble Pugs and Crows. Noteworthy performances include Poland’s Jazztopad Festival, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. My compositions have been in short films and television and premiered by ensembles such as Orkestra Futura and the Cassatt Quartet.

“vibrant, earthy and spiritual” (UK Vibe)

“[Cat] uses bold atmospheric abstraction and fluid melodies to mix deep human warmth with creative fire” (Coastal Jazz and Blues Society)
